Stairlift installation and service

Stairlifts for Southwest Florida homes.

A stairlift carries you up the staircase you already have. It fits to the stair treads, leaves the wall alone and can usually be installed without any remodeling.

RAIL ON TREADSLOWER LANDINGUPPER LANDING
Which stairlift

Matched to your staircase.

Straight stairs

A single straight rail runs the length of the flight. This is the simplest stairlift to fit and the quickest to install.

Curved and multi-landing stairs

The rail is made to the shape of your staircase, so one lift can travel around bends and across landings.

Outdoor stairs

Weather-resistant models serve exterior stairs, which matters for elevated homes with a long run up to the front door.

What to expect

Simple to live with.

A stairlift is the least disruptive way to make a second floor reachable again. The rail fixes to the treads, and the seat, arms and footrest fold up so the stairs stay clear for everyone else.

  • Folding seat, armrests and footrest
  • Seat belt and obstruction sensors
  • Battery operation, so it works during a power outage
  • Call and send controls at the top and bottom

Features vary by model. We’ll confirm what’s included with the lift we recommend.

Stairlift or elevator?

How to decide

Choose a stairlift if the person using it can sit, transfer on and off, and doesn’t need to bring a wheelchair upstairs.

Choose a home elevator if a wheelchair or walker needs to travel between floors, or if you’d like to move groceries and luggage too.

Choose a platform lift for a short rise, such as a raised entry or porch.

How it works

Three steps to a fitted stairlift.

  1. Stair survey

We measure the staircase, check the landings and talk through who will use the lift.

  2. Written quote

You get a recommended model and a fixed price. Curved rails are made to order for your stairs.

  3. Install and demo

We fit the rail and seat, test everything and show you how to use it before we leave.

Installation

What happens on installation day.

A straight stairlift is usually fitted in a few hours. The rail is cut to the length of your stairs and fixed to the treads with brackets, so nothing is attached to the wall and no structural work is needed. The seat unit is mounted on the rail, the charging points are connected to a standard household outlet, and the lift is tested along its full travel.

A curved stairlift takes longer to arrive because the rail is made to measure. We survey the staircase, the manufacturer builds the rail to that survey, and installation follows once it is delivered. The fitting itself is still typically completed in a day.

Before we leave, we show everyone who will use the lift how to operate it: the seat swivel at the top landing, the seat belt, the armrest control, the call stations and what the lift does if it meets an obstruction.

Common questions

Stairlift FAQ

Will a stairlift block the stairs for everyone else?

No. The seat, armrests and footrest fold up when the lift is parked, leaving room to walk past. On narrow stairs we check the clear width during the survey.

Does a stairlift work in a power outage?

Yes. Stairlifts run on batteries that charge when the lift is parked, so it will keep working for a number of trips when the power is out.

Is there a weight limit?

Yes, and it varies by model. Standard and heavy-duty models are available, and we match the lift to the person using it.

Can a stairlift be fitted outdoors?

Yes. Outdoor models are built with weather-resistant components and a cover. They suit exterior stairs on elevated homes.

How is a stairlift paid for?

Most are bought outright. Veterans and people on certain Medicaid programs may have help available. See our stairlift cost and funding guide.
