Our home base

What Fort Myers homes ask of an elevator.

The city’s housing runs from 1920s riverfront homes along McGregor Boulevard to new gated communities out toward Gateway. The older houses were never designed for an elevator, which makes them retrofit projects: finding stacked closets, or fitting a shaftless lift where there’s no room for a hoistway.

Fort Myers Beach is a different job. Homes rebuilt since Hurricane Ian stand a full story or more above the sand, and the elevator is how groceries, luggage and less mobile family members get upstairs. Most of what we install there is planned with the builder before the pilings go in.

Choosing equipment

Which lift suits which Fort Myers home.

Along McGregor and in neighborhoods like Edison Park and Dean Park, houses are older, lots are tight and nobody wants an addition on the side of a historic home. The elevator has to fit inside the walls that are there. A shaftless model between two floors, or a compact elevator in a pair of stacked closets, is usually the answer, and a stairlift is the fallback where neither will fit.

In Gulf Harbour, The Landings and Fiddlesticks the homes are newer and larger, often with a bedroom suite upstairs and space to give up for a proper hoistway. Out at Gateway and Pelican Preserve, two-story homes in 55-plus communities are where we fit the most stairlifts. On Fort Myers Beach nearly everything is new elevated construction, and the elevator is drawn into the plans from day one.

Service and repair

Looking after lifts in Fort Myers.

Because our shop is on Colonial Boulevard, Fort Myers is where we can usually reach a stopped elevator fastest. Most calls turn out to be one of a handful of things: a landing door that isn’t latching, a tired backup battery, a controller upset by a power surge, or corrosion on something that sits near the river air. We carry common parts for the major residential brands, so many repairs are finished on the first visit. For homes we maintain regularly, we already know the equipment, which shortens the diagnosis further. If you’ve just bought a house here with an elevator and no service history, start with an inspection so you know what you have.

Cost and planning

What a home elevator costs in Fort Myers.

New home elevator, installed

$25,000to$60,000

Stairlifts and platform lifts cost less.

Where yours lands depends on the drive type, the number of stops, the hoistway and the cab finish. In Fort Myers the biggest swing in price is retrofit versus new construction. Adding an elevator to an established home means finding room for the hoistway, and sometimes a shaftless model is the simpler answer. In a new elevated build the elevator is planned with the structure, which usually keeps the cost down. If the goal is just getting upstairs safely, a stairlift costs a fraction of an elevator.

Our home elevator cost guide breaks down each factor, and the stairlift cost and funding guide covers VA, Medicaid and other help with paying for a lift.

Local questions

Questions from Fort Myers homeowners.

How quickly can you get to a broken elevator in Fort Myers?

Fort Myers is where we’re based, so same-day or rapid response is most achievable here. Call 239.499.4749 and we’ll tell you when a technician can be there.

My house was built in the 1950s. Can it take an elevator?

Often, yes. Older Fort Myers homes usually suit a closet conversion or a shaftless elevator between two floors. We’ll look at the framing and tell you what’s realistic.

Is a stairlift or an elevator better for a two-story home in a 55-plus community?

If everyone using it can sit and transfer, a stairlift is quicker and far cheaper. If a walker or wheelchair needs to go upstairs, or you want to move laundry and luggage too, an elevator is the better long-term choice. We can quote both after one visit.

Do you service elevators on Fort Myers Beach?

Yes. We install, maintain and repair elevators and platform lifts on Fort Myers Beach and San Carlos Island, including restoration of equipment damaged by storm surge.

How much does a home elevator cost in Fort Myers?

Most new home elevators we install cost $25,000 to $60,000. The number of stops, the drive type, the hoistway and the cab finish decide where a home in Fort Myers lands. Stairlifts and platform lifts cost less. We give a written quote after a free in-home visit.

Does Medicare pay for a home elevator or stairlift?

Original Medicare does not, because it treats elevators and stairlifts as home modifications rather than medical equipment. Some Medicare Advantage plans, VA benefits and Florida Medicaid long-term care can help in certain cases. Our stairlift cost and funding guide explains each option.
