What to expect

How a repair call runs.

  1. You call

Tell us what the elevator is doing, or not doing, and whether anyone is inside. We will ask the make and roughly how old it is.

  2. We diagnose

The technician checks fault codes, doors and gates, power and the drive to find the cause, not just the symptom.

  3. You get a price

If it is more than a simple adjustment, we explain what failed and what it costs before going further.

  4. We fix and test

The repair is made, the elevator is run through its full travel and the safety devices are checked before we leave.

Before you call

Three things worth checking first.

1

Doors and gate

Check that every landing door is fully closed and the cab gate is shut and latched. The elevator will not move if any one of them is open, even slightly.

2

Breaker and disconnect

After a storm or a power cut these are often tripped or switched off. If the breaker trips again when reset, leave it off and call us.

3

Stop button or key switch

Look in the cab for an emergency stop button or key switch that has been pushed or turned.

Still won’t run?

If all of that looks right and the elevator still will not run, it needs a technician.

Common questions

Repair FAQ

Someone is stuck in the elevator. What do I do?

If they are in distress or cannot be reached, call 911. Otherwise keep them calm, check the doors and the power as above, and call us. Do not try to force the doors or climb out.

Can you get parts for an older elevator?

Usually. For some discontinued models, original parts are scarce, and we will tell you if a repair is no longer practical and what the upgrade options are.

Is it worth repairing a twenty-year-old elevator?

Often, yes, if the structure and rails are sound. When repairs become frequent, replacing the controls and drive through modernization is usually better value than continuing to patch.
