Beach rebuilds on one side, aging in place on the other.
On Clearwater Beach, Island Estates and Sand Key, homes are increasingly built or rebuilt on pilings, with garages below and two or three floors of living space above. After Helene and Milton in 2024, many owners are rebuilding to current flood elevation, and an elevator is the obvious way to make a three-level house work every day.
Inland, in Countryside, Belleair, Dunedin, Safety Harbor and Palm Harbor, the work is mostly about staying in a home you love. Two-story houses and older homes with a few steps at every entry are where stairlifts, platform lifts and compact shaftless elevators do the most good.

What Clearwater homes need most.
Elevators for beach homes
Multi-stop elevators for homes on pilings, with equipment above flood level and finishes chosen for salt air.
Stairlifts for two-story homes
Straight and curved stairlifts that install on the existing staircase, usually without construction.
Entry and porch lifts
Platform lifts for raised entries and short flights, indoors or out.
What works in Clearwater homes.
On Clearwater Beach, Island Estates, Sand Key and Belleair Beach, the elevator has to suit a house built on pilings: equipment above base flood elevation, corrosion-resistant parts and a cab that can serve three or four stops. A conventional hoistway is usually the right answer, and it should be in the plans before construction starts.
In Belleair, Dunedin, Safety Harbor, Countryside and Palm Harbor, many homes date from the 1970s to the 1990s. A stairlift is the fastest fix for a two-story house, and a platform lift handles raised entries. Where an owner wants a true elevator, a shaftless model can often fit without rebuilding walls.
Permits in Clearwater
Clearwater, Dunedin, Largo, Belleair, Tarpon Springs and Indian Shores each run their own building departments. Indian Rocks Beach, Belleair Beach, Safety Harbor, Oldsmar and the unincorporated areas, including Palm Harbor and East Lake, go through Pinellas County. We file with the right office and design for its flood rules.
Storms and salt
Helene’s surge flooded parts of Clearwater Beach and the barrier islands in September 2024, and Milton brought wind and flooding two weeks later. Elevators and lifts that took on salt water need a real inspection, because controllers and wiring can fail weeks later. In new installs, we keep the electrical equipment above flood level.

Looking after lifts in Clearwater.
We service the major residential elevator and lift brands, including equipment installed by other companies. A first visit covers the rails, drive, door locks, controller and safety devices, with a plain account of what’s fine, what’s worn and what’s worth planning for. Most owners then keep the lift on a regular maintenance schedule.
What a home elevator costs in Clearwater.
New home elevator, installed
$25,000to$60,000
Stairlifts and platform lifts cost less.
Where yours lands depends on the drive type, the number of stops, the hoistway and the cab finish. On the beaches, the number of stops and the flood requirements drive the price. Inland, most Clearwater-area projects are stairlifts or platform lifts, which cost far less than an elevator. A shaftless elevator for a two-story home sits between the two.
Our home elevator cost guide breaks down each factor, and the stairlift cost and funding guide covers VA, Medicaid and other help with paying for a lift.

Questions from Clearwater homeowners.
We’re building on Clearwater Beach. What does the elevator need from the design?
A hoistway of the right size, a pit or a pitless option, overhead clearance at the top stop and a dedicated power supply, all coordinated with flood elevation. We provide those details to your architect early so nothing has to be redesigned.
Is a stairlift or an elevator better for our two-story home?
A stairlift is faster to install and costs far less. An elevator suits two people sharing the house, a wheelchair or walker, or anyone carrying things upstairs often. We’ll show you both options at the in-home visit.
Can you add a lift to a raised front entry?
Yes. A vertical platform lift can carry a wheelchair or walker from the driveway to the door. Outdoor models are built for Florida weather.
Do you service elevators installed by other companies?
Yes. We service the major residential brands and can usually source parts for older equipment.
How much does a home elevator cost in Clearwater?
Most new home elevators we install cost $25,000 to $60,000. The number of stops, the drive type, the hoistway and the cab finish decide where a home in Clearwater lands. Stairlifts and platform lifts cost less. We give a written quote after a free in-home visit.
Does Medicare pay for a home elevator or stairlift?
Original Medicare does not, because it treats elevators and stairlifts as home modifications rather than medical equipment. Some Medicare Advantage plans, VA benefits and Florida Medicaid long-term care can help in certain cases. Our stairlift cost and funding guide explains each option.
