Charlotte Harbor

A town that has rebuilt twice, and built higher each time.

Punta Gorda was rebuilt after Hurricane Charley in 2004 and repaired again after Ian. Each round raised the standard: newer homes sit higher, and many have living space over a ground-level garage. That has made elevators and platform lifts far more common here than they were twenty years ago.

It has also left a mix of equipment of different ages and brands, some of it installed by companies that no longer serve the area. We take on maintenance and repair for elevators we didn’t install, and we’re glad to be the regular service company for owners who have been without one.

What we’re called for in Punta Gorda

The work we do here most.

  • Service for orphaned equipment

Maintenance and repair on elevators whose original installer is no longer around.

  • Lifts for raised entries

Vertical platform lifts for homes elevated above grade, at the front entry or from the garage.

  • Elevators in newer canal homes

Two- and three-stop elevators for homes in the Isles and along the harbor.

Choosing equipment

What we fit in Punta Gorda and Charlotte County.

Punta Gorda Isles and Burnt Store Isles are mostly single-story canal homes, so the calls from there are often about a raised entry or a garage step: a vertical platform lift, or a short-rise lift from the garage into the house. The newer two-story homes on the larger lots get elevators.

Further out, the picture changes. Manasota Key and Boca Grande have elevated beach homes where an elevator serves two or three levels. Rotonda West, South Gulf Cove and Deep Creek have a steady number of two-story homes where a stairlift is the sensible answer. Babcock Ranch is new construction, and builders there ask us for specifications before framing.

Service and repair

Looking after lifts in Punta Gorda.

A good share of the calls we get from Punta Gorda and Port Charlotte begin with the same sentence: the company that put it in isn’t around any more. That’s fine. We service all major residential brands and will start with an inspection, so you know what you have and what it needs. Platform lifts in the Isles are exposed to weather and occasional flooding, and they benefit from a yearly check of the drive, limit switches and safety edges. For elevators, we look hardest at the pit and the lowest landing, because that’s where repeated high water has done its damage. We’ll give you a written list of what we found.

Cost and planning

What a home elevator costs in Punta Gorda.

New home elevator, installed

$25,000to$60,000

Stairlifts and platform lifts cost less.

Where yours lands depends on the drive type, the number of stops, the hoistway and the cab finish. In Punta Gorda we see a lot of raised entries, and a platform lift to the front door is the most affordable way to deal with those steps. For older elevators whose original installer is gone, repair and service usually cost far less than replacement. We’ll tell you plainly whether yours is worth keeping.

Our home elevator cost guide breaks down each factor, and the stairlift cost and funding guide covers VA, Medicaid and other help with paying for a lift.

Local questions

Questions from Punta Gorda homeowners.

Nobody has serviced our elevator in years. Can you take it on?

Yes. We’ll start with a full inspection, tell you what condition it’s in and what it needs, then put it on a regular schedule if you’d like.

Do you cover Port Charlotte and Englewood too?

Yes. We serve all of Charlotte County, including Port Charlotte, Deep Creek, Englewood and Rotonda West.

Do you install platform lifts in garages?

Yes. A short-rise vertical lift from the garage floor to the house level is a common job in the Isles, and it takes very little space.

How far north do you travel?

Throughout Charlotte County, including Port Charlotte, Englewood and Manasota Key.

How much does a home elevator cost in Punta Gorda?

Most new home elevators we install cost $25,000 to $60,000. The number of stops, the drive type, the hoistway and the cab finish decide where a home in Punta Gorda lands. Stairlifts and platform lifts cost less. We give a written quote after a free in-home visit.

Does Medicare pay for a home elevator or stairlift?

Original Medicare does not, because it treats elevators and stairlifts as home modifications rather than medical equipment. Some Medicare Advantage plans, VA benefits and Florida Medicaid long-term care can help in certain cases. Our stairlift cost and funding guide explains each option.

Ready when you are.
