A city built on canals

Waterfront living, without the stairs.

Much of Cape Coral was built as single-story canal homes, but the newer houses, especially in the southwest and northwest, are two stories or raised above flood elevation. That’s where our Cape Coral work comes from: a stairlift for the couple who want to keep using the upstairs, or an elevator added to a new elevated build before the drywall goes up.

Being surrounded by water has a cost. Canal-front homes took on surge during Ian, and garages and ground-level elevator pits were the first things to flood. We assess and restore storm-damaged elevators in the Cape, and we set up newer installations so the equipment that matters sits as high as it can.

The work we do here most.

Straight and curved stairlifts fitted to the stairs you have, usually without any remodeling.

  • Elevators in new elevated builds

Planned with your builder so the hoistway, pit and power are right from the start.

  • Flood and surge restoration

Assessment and repair for elevators in homes that took on canal water.

Choosing equipment

Matching the lift to the Cape Coral house.

In the older southeast, around the Yacht Club, Bimini Basin and the Gold Coast, the original homes are low single-story ranches. When those lots are redeveloped the new house is two stories and raised, and that’s where an elevator goes in. For the existing two-story homes scattered through the same streets, a stairlift is the common request.

The southwest, including Cape Harbour, Tarpon Point, Rose Garden and the Eight Lakes area, has the Cape’s largest waterfront homes, many with three levels and gulf-access docks. Elevators are close to standard in new builds there. In the northwest, where construction is newest, we see elevated homes on fresh lots and builders asking for hoistway dimensions before the slab is poured.

Service and repair

Looking after lifts in Cape Coral.

Repair calls in the Cape cluster around two things: water and age. After a wet season we see pits that have taken on groundwater or canal surge, and controllers damaged by the power cuts that come with storms. On the age side, two-story homes built in the early 2000s boom now have elevators and stairlifts that are twenty years old and due for attention. We diagnose the fault, tell you what it costs to fix and say honestly when an upgrade would serve you better than another repair. Regular maintenance is the cheapest protection, and for canal-front homes we suggest a visit before storm season as well as one after it.

Cost and planning

What a home elevator costs in Cape Coral.

New home elevator, installed

$25,000to$60,000

Stairlifts and platform lifts cost less.

Where yours lands depends on the drive type, the number of stops, the hoistway and the cab finish. Many Cape Coral homes are single-story on the main level with living space or parking below, so the right answer ranges from a stairlift on an existing staircase to a full elevator in a new elevated build. Elevators that were flooded during Ian are a separate case: restoring one costs less than replacing it when the hoistway and rails are sound, and we price both after an inspection.

Our home elevator cost guide breaks down each factor, and the stairlift cost and funding guide covers VA, Medicaid and other help with paying for a lift.

Local questions

Questions from Cape Coral homeowners.

We have a two-story Cape home and no room for a shaft. What are the options?

A stairlift is the simplest. If you need to move a wheelchair between floors, a shaftless elevator travels through an opening in the floor and takes about as much space as an armchair.

Our garage flooded and the elevator stopped. What now?

Leave the power off and call us. Water in the pit can damage wiring and components that look fine from the cab. We’ll assess it before anyone tries to run it.

How much room does a shaftless elevator take in a Cape Coral two-story?

Roughly the footprint of an armchair on each floor, plus an opening in the ceiling between them. It suits homes where there’s no pair of stacked closets to convert.

We’re building new on a canal lot. When should the elevator be planned?

Before the plans are finalized. Pit depth, hoistway size and power all affect the structure, and they’re cheap to include on paper and expensive to add later.

How much does a home elevator cost in Cape Coral?

Most new home elevators we install cost $25,000 to $60,000. The number of stops, the drive type, the hoistway and the cab finish decide where a home in Cape Coral lands. Stairlifts and platform lifts cost less. We give a written quote after a free in-home visit.

Does Medicare pay for a home elevator or stairlift?

Original Medicare does not, because it treats elevators and stairlifts as home modifications rather than medical equipment. Some Medicare Advantage plans, VA benefits and Florida Medicaid long-term care can help in certain cases. Our stairlift cost and funding guide explains each option.
