Beyond the purchase price

What it costs to own.

An elevator is a machine with moving parts, and on the coast it lives in salt air. Budget for routine service every year. It’s a small figure next to the purchase price and it’s what keeps repair bills down.

  • Scheduled maintenance, at an interval suited to your equipment
  • Occasional wear parts, such as batteries for the backup system
  • A pre-season check before hurricane season

Stairlifts and platform lifts

If a full elevator is more than you need, a stairlift or platform lift costs considerably less and installs faster. Prices depend on the staircase or the rise, so we quote these after a short survey.

Upgrading an existing elevator

Modernizing an older elevator usually costs less than replacing it, because the hoistway and structure stay.

Common questions

Home elevator cost FAQ

Why is the range so wide?

Because a two-stop elevator in a new build with standard finishes and a four-stop glass elevator retrofitted into an existing home are very different projects. Most of the difference comes from the number of stops, the hoistway work and the cab finishes.

Is it cheaper to add an elevator during construction?

Almost always. Framing the hoistway, pit and power into a new build costs far less than opening up a finished house. If you’re building and think you may want an elevator later, ask your builder to frame the hoistway now.

Does the price include the permit?

We handle the elevator permit application and inspections. Your quote spells out exactly what’s included.
